Perry Austin

For Artist Info & Prices
Perry AustinPerry Austin is an observant and inventive painter, always refusing to rely on what has worked in the past, Perry instead each time rebuilds the wheel, a feat he does with great success.   Perry’s instructors are the masters of the past, both those hanging in museums he visited and those who wrote of their own journeys… artists ranging from from Cennino Cennini to John Carlson to Edgar Payne. Today, he continues to grow through exposure to his contemporaries and the up-and-coming young bucks, for Perry knows that an artist has never “arrived” but must always keep his eyes on the horizon.  With his roots in rural Alabama, Perry has an innate love of the landscape both as a painter and a fisherman. Beginning art making at the age of 13, Perry’s art took a professional turn as he gained formal  training in the aerospace industry as a technical illustrator and worked for companies from California to Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, AL. After graduating from Auburn University Perry became Vice President of Marketing and Sales for RSG, Inc. an outstanding international process equipment company. During this period fine art was a passionate hobby for Perry and he was represented at several art galleries. In 1998 he and his three brothers were published in Southwest Art and soon afterward Perry began the full time pursuit of fine art. His professional affiliations include Oil Painters of America and Plein Air Painters of the Southeast. His work resides in museums and personal collections across the country and has been published by Southwest Art and American Art Collector. Perry happily resides and paints in the Alabama hills at Box Turtle Farm with his wife, Carol. CLICK For press coverage of Perry Austin
“I live in a rural area, and painting scenes abound. All I have to do is walk out the door and look.  Having said this, I know we all get used to our surroundings and become somewhat jaded and think there is nothing else here to paint. That is actually never true.  I have painted a lot of Black-eyed Susans and Golden Rods, but all I have to do is change the direction I look or paint at a different time of day, and I get a totally different scene.  Many never stop to admire what is so freely offered by Nature. Slow down – take a look.  There is always something.” – Perry Austin

“I have admired Perry’s work for several years now. But I didn’t know anything about him. I have never met him. Once I viewed this video, I immediately felt that I knew him. I still don’t really know him, but the video made me believe that I did and that I could and that I should. It made me feel that he is the type of person that I would want to be around. We have many interests in common. It made me connect even more to his art. I can understand a bit about why he paints certain subjects. I can see how he responds to nature in the way he does. The video was uplifting and beautiful – just like his art.” –Keith Bond, from the blog, Fine Art Views
