G. Russell Case

As a Painter and a person, G. Russell Case is one of a kind, always possessing a unique approach. Whether he is hiking in the Wasatch Mountains above his Brigham City, Utah home or throwing the perfect fly cast on Green River, Case is a leader. As a painter, Case’s most important mentor is Robert Henri, who inspired him to develop his own approach, a lesson few artists observe. His art contains the simplicity that all great painters seek; his interpretations reflect the artistic vision distilled through keen observation of the great painters that came before. A graduate of Snow College and Utah State University, Case studied with Osral Allred, Carl Purcell, Harrison Groutage, and Gaell Lindstrom. He is one of few Utah experts in the philosophy of Robert Henri.

The paintings shown here are from beyond his usual Western geography, painted on site in the Wilmington, NC area.  When Russell came to paint with us, he had never been further east than Kansas.  He never missed a beat and responded well to the moisture laden air and flat land of the southeastern coast.

Case has won numerous awards including Featured Artist Coors Show; Dixie Invitational 2010 3rd Place Oil; Best of Show and 3rd Place Oil Painting at the Phippen Western Art Show in Prescott, AZ in 2001;First Place at Southwest Art magazine Artist to Watch show in Steamboat Springs, CO in 2002; and Best of Show, People’s Choice, and Artists’ Choice at Maynard Dixon Country in Mt. Carmel Junction, UT in 2003.  Among the shows Case has been invited to in the last few years are the Western Visions show in Jackson, WY; Coors Western Art Exhibition in Denver, CO; and Maynard Dixon Country.

Word has it he’s also a scratch golfer.  What can you do with somebody like that?
